Residents go hunting for operating gas stations

November 25th, 2011 Posted in Hunting Tags:

Pomfret, Conn. (WTNH) – Eastfords only gas station is closed due to the lack of power, so residents are forced to go to Pomfret, the next closest gas station.

The Xtramart in Pomfret is expecting to be busy Tuesday because they are not only giving away a free cup of coffee, but they are also  the closest gas station to places like Eastford whose stations are without power.

Christine Russell, who works at the Pomfret Xtramart, said, We had some people from Enfield and some Manchester people today.

When it comes to gas, Bowens Garage is usually the only game in town. But with 96% of Eastford without power , this gas tank, which was running on a generator, was pumping gas non-stop.

Marshall Cataldi, at Bowens Garage, said, Yes we were up until about an hour or two ago and our tank ran dry.

Bowens is not the only station hanging up the no gas sign now.

Carey Penney, a Vernon resident, said, I did check at one of the stations at 74 and 44 and that was I think they were out of gas.

Penney had to do a little driving around to find a place to fill up.

Lee Pask, an Eastford resident, said, Its really hard trying to look after a one year old when youve got no power.

And then traveling twenty minutes to get gas?

Yeah it costs you money just to get there to get gas to get back to fill it up.

Many other folks may have to go through this routine for several days.

Roger Federer Hunting for No.3 in ATP

November 12th, 2011 Posted in Hunting Tags:

16-times grand slam champion, Roger Federer playing in his home ground has been out of top-3 in ATP, since 2003 and is strongly focused in the remaining three tournaments at Basel, Pairs and London Finals.

4-times Basel champion, Federer claiming his first victory on Monday against Potito Starace has said that, he don’t even know how to get back to No.3 in ATP. But, the Swiss has expressed that, his goal is trying to win when he is playing the next few weeks.

The focus right now is trying to play well here in Basel. The next round is my priority, but clearly after winning here, semis in Paris with match points and winning London and reported that, he can do extremely well and added that, if I’m three or four at the end of the year, we’ll see, but if I’m going to make a move I need to win tournaments and that’s what it’s going to take.

Federer is now 2000 ATP rankings points behind Andy Murray at No.3 in the South African Airways 2011 ATP Year-To-Date Rankings.

With both the players, Federer and Murray competing in the final-3 tournaments of this season, it could be tough task for the Swiss champion. But, if he regains titles in Basel and Barclays ATP World Tour Finals, Federer will grab a total of 3,000 South African Airways ATP Rankings points, which will make the champion to end the year at top-3 in the South African Airways ATP Rankings.

‘Ghost Hunters’ discuss hunting spooks live on Halloween

November 6th, 2011 Posted in Hunting Tags:

For paranormal investigators Grant Wilson and Jason Hawes of the Syfy reality TV series “Ghost Hunters,” working the graveyard shift is no big deal. Their sixth annual live Halloween special, however, is.

This year, the crew will explore the sprawling grounds of Pennhurst State School and Hospital, a former asylum in Pennsylvania, live from 7 pm to 1 am EDT Monday. Viewers can follow the action on TV and on the website, which will offer extra video feeds, real-time maps and a “panic button.” Wilson and Hawes spoke to The Times about life as TV spook seekers and what might be in store at Pennhurst.

PHOTOS: Ghosts on TV

What are some of the most frightening things you’ve encountered?

Jason Hawes: We don’t look at it as frightening. One of the best locations was the Stanley Hotel: On camera, we had a door in my room unlock itself and open, a glass shatter itself from the inside out, and then a little while later the door closed and latched itself. And we were able to back up the experience with footage. We’ve done places like Waverly Hills [Sanatorium] out in Kentucky, where 63,000 people died of tuberculosis. They have a death tunnel where all day long they used to load bodies. Think about the energy that must be trapped in that area.

“Ghost Hunters” investigated Pennhurst earlier this season; why revisit?

Grant Wilson: We caught several voices talking — one of them named the town that we were in. Steve [Gonsalves] and [Dave] Tango heard a huge bang, like one of the window screens slammed shut. So there were lots of cool things, lots of reasons to be there. A live show also needs to be a large location. So there were a few requirements, and Pennhurst definitely filled them all.

Hawes: I wouldn’t want to go to someplace I’ve never been for the live show. If I go somewhere I’ve never been and find out that there’s nothing going on, it becomes an extremely boring six hours for the fans and for us.

How does the panic button work?

Wilson: They have various cameras on the website, and when people see stuff they can hit the panic button, and if enough people have seen something, we’ll get the word right there and then and go check it out. It’s awesome.

Hawes: Talk about having a million investigators, or however many people, watching all the cameras.

Wilson: Like remote-control investigators.

Tuesday tips round-up:Hunting, De La Rue, Anglo Pacific

November 2nd, 2011 Posted in Hunting Tags:

LONDON (SHARECAST) – Hunting continued its strategy of expanding its offering through acquisitions yesterday, with the takeover of Specialty Supply. The oil services firm agreed to buy the Texas-based maker of precision-machined drilling parts for a cool $31m,? writes The Independent. The deal is the latest in a series of ?bolt-on? acquisitions as the company looks to build a broad range of services to aid in the extraction of conventional and unconventional oil and gas reserves. The $5.5m (£3.4m) pre-tax profit Specialty reported in 2010 will have added about 10 per cent to Huntings bottom line ? based on Huntings £38.5m profit last year ? though the deal could well end up boosting it by far more over the years, the newspaper reckons. With the price of oil and gas set to remain high and unconventional drilling all the rage, Huntings future looks pretty good. The Independent says Buy.

The Timess Tempus column looks at De La Rue, the bank note printing firm. The companys position was weakened last year by a scandal over test certificates for the currency it produces. Since then, its French rival Oberthur has, Tempus suggests, ?parked its tanks on the lawn?. This has been mainly achieved by hiring the former Chief Executive of De La Rue James Hussey, indicating a takeover is in the offing. It suggests a target price may be £10 per share. The current price is 844.5p. Tempus says buy.

The Telegraphs Questor column looks at the mining royalty company Anglo Pacific which aims to hand back much of its free cash to investors in the form of dividends. Currently the dividend is at 3.6% but the firm is committed to increase that above inflation. The business model of APF is to buy, or enter in to, royalty agreements where it receives an agreed percentage of a mines income. With exposure, via an Australian mine, to China and other growing Asian economies, the Telegraph says Anglo Pacific is a buy.
